The Disability Trust provides a scheduled drop-in support service for people with a mild intellectual disability who live independently in the community.

Our clients generally live by themselves in community housing, private rental or privately owned accommodation.

Our staff provide assistance with a variety of tasks, from helping people find accommodation to budgeting, shopping and developing life skills such as cooking and cleaning.

Staff typically visit the clients several times each week, averaging around three hours per week. Our staff find this service a particularly rewarding one as they watch our service users develop skills, confidence and independence.

The Disability Trust also provides three specialised services under Independent Living including:

• Up to 35 hours a week support to people whose placements are at risk. The service is offered in partnership with Housing NSW and other service providers.
• Support for young people who are under Guardianship of the State through Education and Community Services to live independently once they turn 18.
• Flexible support providing an average of 2 hours a week for people with a mental illness to assist them to maintain independent living in the community.
