Ben has always had a love of books and his favourite genre is science fiction. “One day I’d would like to write my own science fiction book to be published”, Ben says.
Ben is the newest staff member at the Bega Shire Council Library and is a student at Sapphire Anglican College and is the Council’s first School Based Traineeship. He will be studying a Certificate 3 in Library Services while completing his year 12 certificate. Ben undertook a 6 months unpaid trial at the Council before getting the position in early March - his passion and dedication paid off.
“My favourite task is sorting all the books and categorising them. I like the regular routine at the Library”, said Ben.
Leanne, Ben’s WorkAbility Employment Consultant, tells us “Ben has Autism and routine is important - however he has been learning new tasks weekly with the guidance of his Manager, Anne, at the library. We’re working collaboratively with Ben and the library team, as well as his school and the Apprenticeship Centre to help guide and support Ben to continue his success in his chosen career”.
