Forging New Friendship through Travel Opportunities

Zac and Pat Trusted TravelThe world is getting smaller, with more access to supported holidays with disability friendly providers and destinations. We were always excited about the opportunities and experiences that Trusted Travel would provide our participants and us as a provider, but what we did not expect were the other add-on benefits –independence and most importantly friendship.

Last September, after meeting in Wollongong our new group of travellers headed to Melbourne for the Trusted Travel Historical Melbourne trip. Five days of exploring were ahead of us with trips to Old Melbourne Gaol, a trip to Lakeside aboard the Puffing Billy Steam Train, a cruise up the Yarra and much more.

On this trip, we had Zac from Bega and Pat from Mollymook, first time travellers with Trusted Travel, who as the days went by formed a great friendship based on their mutual ability to be very witty and their common love of practical jokes. The easy-going pair got chatting as we explored Melbourne and all it has to offer and found they had a lot of similar interests and experiences from growing up in country towns on the NSW’s South Coast. They love their football, traveling and love having a laugh and before they knew it, the trip was drawing to an end. They decided to keep in contact and call each other regularly, tagging one another on Facebook posts and planning for future travel. They contacted Trusted Travel again when they saw the Comedy Cruise advertised for February this year and booked their places. Zac, who also has a vision impairment, booked the bus from Bega to Sydney and then Pat made sure he booked himself onto the same coach so that they could do the first leg of their holiday together. This was fantastic for Zac “He’s a good mate and having him with me on the bus was a great help.”

“The comedy cruise was the best time ever,” said Pat, “we loved the food and playing bingo.” The pair were also very excited to catch a glimpse of well-known comedian Jimeoin who also happened to be the cruise.

Pat and Zac are now looking forward to planning their next adventure, with Pat travelling to Bega this weekend to spend time with Zac, take in a trial NRL game between the Raiders and the Bulldogs and doing some more travel research.
