International Day of People with Disability

Adult with teenager sitting together with IDPwD LogoInternational Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is celebrated internationally every year on the 3rd of December. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and to celebrate their achievements and contributions.

The theme for IDPwD 2021 is ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’. The goal is to promote inclusion through the removal of physical, technological and attitudinal barriers for people with disability.

Inclusion has always been at the heart of what we do here at The Disability Trust and is embedded in our Vision, Purpose and Values. We want to see all our participants have the same opportunities that everyone has and we constantly strive to make changes and enhance our programs and services to reflect this.

As part of our recognition of IDPwD this year we have conducted interviews on the subject of inclusion with our community partners:

  •  John Blewonski, CEO of Multiple Sclerosis Limited, and
  •  Mark Sleigh, General Manager of Destination Wollongong
which we shall be sharing on social media later this week.

So now we’d like your help:

Are you an ambassador for inclusion?

What does inclusion mean to you? Is it playing a sport, working your dream job, going to school or traveling the world?

Send us your response and a photo, and join us in celebrating you!
