Leila is Goal Focused!

LeilaLeila is an inspiring young women who is filled with dreams, Leila dreamed of moving out of home and living independently from her family. She achieved this in 2018 when she moved into her new home in Bruce with a couple of her friends supported by The Disability Trust.

Once she moved in to her new home the focus was directed to her other dreams.

“My dreams included working with animals, travelling to Disneyland in America, gaining paid employment and living a normal life”.

A two year plan was developed.

The first achievement involved Leila delivering pamphlets around her local area for Storage King assisted by her Disability Trust support workers and her employers Mick and Leanne. Leila also reached some of her health goals during this time by gaining fitness and losing weight.

Leila also needed to use her mobile phone to map the area of delivery gaining increased confidence and independence. In addition the money she earned from the job gave her added spending money to go on two holidays with Trusted Travel. A three day trip to Sydney to see the Vivid light show and a trip to Phillip Island to see the Fairy Penguins. This was the first time Leila had travelled independently without her family, which gave her an added boost to herself-esteem, and showed her family what she could achieve by herself.

Building on her confidence The Disability Trust helped Leila to produce her first resume and work towards her third goal of working with animals. Leila had successfully completed a Certificate 3 at the CIT in animal companionship and earlier this year she found employment with “No Fret Pets”, which specialises in walking and feeding animals while you are at work or away on holiday.

Leila loved it and even found herself working with chooks and reptiles but no pigs she says! Unfortunately for Leila Covid-19 hit so Leila’s employment was put on a hold but now the restrictions are easing Leila is again keen to get back into looking after your pets.

Whilst in isolation with support from her Disability Trust community access support worker James she enrolled in an on line certificate 4 course in pet grooming, and recently completed the course in just over three months. Leila will now undertake an eight week practical course at Isabella Pet Grooming Salon in Woden and Leila hopes to gain part time employment in 2021 at a pet grooming salon.

After that her final goal is to get to Disneyland! Leila loves all Disney characters and movies, and her goal is to get there in 2021 for a two week adventure. Let’s all hope she gets there! With the support of The Disability Trust we are sure she will.
