Workskills is the open employment service of The Disability Trust, working with local people to earn an enviable reputation for matching the needs of job seekers with the requirements of employers. Currently Jeanette is one of many ladies who are hoping to access opportunities and be work ready and she was thrilled to be offered a ‘ business attire’ makeover. The Trust is very grateful to have the support here in the Illawarra/ Shoalhaven area of Dress for Success, a not-for-profit organisation, founded by local businesswoman Nicki Bowman, that provides professional clothing for women who need a helping hand to get into the workforce. A "pop-up" styling session opened its doors at the main street centre in Port Kembla to a number of our ladies seeking employment and they were thrilled with their transformations. “The change is dramatic. We see the women often come in very hesitant at first. When they start putting the clothes on, their shoulders go back, they stand up straight, and by the end, they're looking at themselves in the mirror and twirling around," Nicki said. Jeanette is over the moon with her new look and has already attended an interview, hoping to gain employment soon.
