Remove The Barriers - Dylan Alcott

Dylan at Conference

For people living with a disability and The Disability Trust, International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), December 3rd is an important day for awareness, understanding, recognition and acceptance.

This year, The Disability Trust focused on the theme ‘Remove the Barrier’ in support of Australian Paralympic Gold Medallist and Disability Advocate, Dylan Alcott OAM. The Dylan Alcott Foundation’s mission is to change the perception and eliminate the stigma about disability in mainstream employment.

“With over four million Australians having a form of disability and much higher rates of unemployment, we are proud to be supporting the Remove the Barrier campaign. Through our employment service Workskills we are calling on support from local businesses to provide more employment placement opportunities for people with disabilities”, said Chief Executive Officer of The Disability Trust, Margaret Bowen.

Simple steps from Get Skilled Access include:

  • See the person - focus on the person, not their disability
  • All jobs can be worked flexibly and adjusted for a person with a disability
  • Hire a person with a disability — they are ambitious and want to work
  • or Support businesses who are employing people with disability in your community

For more information about employing a person with a disability call The Disability Trust on 1300 347 224 or go to www.workskills4u.org.au or www.getskilledaccess.com.au.
