The Goulburn SLES program have recently set up a free DVD borrowing Library located at The Disability Trust’s Goulburn office. The group had an idea for a project providing a service that participants would enjoy and would be of no cost to them.
The group designed flyers that were asking for DVD donations where these were handed out to all staff and local businesses in Goulburn. The group set themselves a deadline to meet along with devising a spreadsheet system to catalogue all DVD’S.
Donations started flooding in more and more each day, with cupboard space reaching full capacity in no time.
The group reached out to our local Bunnings via email explaining their project and due to the overwhelming donations were hoping Bunnings would be able to donate an extra cupboard for storage. Bunnings have happily offered to help out with a donation of an extra cupboard in the coming weeks.
The group also made Goulburn participant’s their own borrowing card that included photo identification. The card also holds space to document DVD’S borrowed by each participant.
The group even set up a roster for the operation days of the library so that each SLES participant has the opportunity to build customer service skills and social skills with other participants they have not met.
The Library held an opening on September 28th and is currently operating on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 1pm-3pm.
