The Disability Trust is putting its support behind the Teamwork Works campaign that will put people with disability and the workers that support them at the front and centre of the national conversation.
Driven by National Disability Services (the peak organisation representing disability service providers across Australia), the campaign aims to protect the integrity of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) by building awareness of its value to people with disability.
The NDIS is a great social reform that was driven by people with disability and the providers who support them. Where services had been scarce, now people with disability have the right to plan their own support and build a team around them.
But the scheme is now at a cross-roads, with pressures to cut access and support levels. The NDIS supports more than 450,000 Australians with disability, but this also has a flow-on benefit; for every dollar spent on the NDIS, the scheme delivers $2.25 to the broader Australian economy.
The NDIS employs 270,000 Australians directly, with a large proportion of female workers. For every $1 billion cut from the scheme, 10,200 jobs would be lost.
