Peter Vassallo is responsible for getting online orders to the Post Office on schedule for Moruya Cycles.
“I approached Moruya Cycles for a position for Pete, as given Pete’s enthusiasm for tinkering on his own trike I thought that a job here would be a fantastic fit. Angus and I decided that a short work placement period would be helpful in working out what Pete’s duties would look like and how we could best tailor the position for him. Pete started work experience in February and within a month he started his new job,” said Zoe Buckley, Employment Consultant at WorkAbility. “Work experience is a great pathway to a paid job,” says Zoe.
As it turned out, Joel the bike mechanic advised that Moruya Bicycles had actually gifted Pete his trike after having it provided by a generous person who asked Angus and Joel to give the trike to someone who would benefit from it. To think that this gift has paved a career for Pete truly is amazing.
Pete’s daily duties are to pack all online orders made overnight and take to post office most often in the basket of the trike. Pete also does pricing of items and placing on display. Pete also occasionally assists with some minor repair work with Joel in the workshop.
“Pete’s role is an important part of our business,” said Angus Murphy, manager of Moruya Cycles, “He makes sure we keep on top of our online orders and ship on time.”
“This is a great place to work, we have all kinds of bikes and accessories. I love being part of the team,” said Peter Vassallo. “Our team wear hats with the 100% brand. We all agree – this bicycle shop is 100% enthusiasm,” said Peter.
