Zac Loves The Trust (as told by his mum, Melita)

Being Busy helps me to be the best version of myself.

I access a lot of programs through The Disability Trust. I need to be kept busy to get the best version of myself. The Disability Trust is the service provider that has best suited my needs so they became my primary support provider. The services I use are as listed below:

  • Afternoon school Care (OOSH) 5 days a week
  • Vacation Care Holiday Program
  • Swim for Fun
  • Respite at Jarrah, however I have used other respite places with The Disability Trust such as Parkside & Willow.
  • Getaway Saturday
I have been using all these services since the NDIS came available in my area which was back in 2017 so 3 years now! My favorite thing to do at afternoon school care is to engage and make new friends, dress ups, play cricket, football and on the iPad. At vac care I love going out on excursions within the community as I’m more of an outdoor then indoor kind of person. Some of my preferred activities would be swimming, going to The Shine Shed, The Discovery Space at UoW, gymnastics and bowling.

Attending these programs has helped me to develop relationships with my peers and learn to engage in appropriate behaviour within the community when I’m out and about. It has also given me some time away from home to be who I want to be and to grow in different environments and learn to adapt to different settings away from home. My family get to have a breather and it gives my parents time to spend with my siblings. Sometimes they feel like I get all the attention and when I am busy at my activities it means they get to do something that they want to do without me maybe cutting the activity short if I have a meltdown. They are happy because they know I am safe, happy and in good hands.
