Tourism Local Navigators Pilot

The Tourism Local Navigators Pilot has been designed to help small and medium sized (SME) tourism businesses address barriers they have identified in recruiting, retaining and progressing employees and jobseekers with disability.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the tourism sector to lose nearly 200,000 jobs in two years. The sector is still recovering, and workers are needed to fuel recovery. At the same time, people with disability remain under-employed in Australia due to various reasons including:

  • Lack of time or capability to recruit people with disability
  • Confusion on how or where to seek support
  • Preference to use local networks to source employees

There is often confusion about how or where to seek support but through industry-tailored approaches and resources, the Tourism Local Navigators Pilot seeks to address those issues. We have partnered with the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO), to deliver the Tourism Local Navigators Pilot across the Illawarra and South Coast regions. The initiative opens up a new set of opportunities that will enhance the ease of disability employment for both employee and employer focusing on these outcomes:

  • Sustainable job creation
  • Improved workplace accessibility
  • Reform workplace culture
  • Embrace diversity and ensure inclusion
  • Increase disability confidence
  • Improve workplace preparedness
  • On-the-job training and support
